The City of Newcastle

The Conference will take place in one of Europe's thriving cosmopolitan cities. Newcastle upon Tyne is an exciting mix of the contemporary, cultural, stylish and historic and is famed across the world for its hospitable welcome. With 2,000 years of history from the Roman occupation to an industrial powerhouse built on shipbuilding and coal, Newcastle has undergone a cultural renaissance. Georgian streets are home to an abundance of shops, restaurants, bars and attractions. Newcastle is also close enough to some of the United Kingdoms most beautiful coastlines and countryside. The beautiful historic city of Durham is only 15 minutes by train, and York — the UK´s most frequently visited city outside of London — is just one hour away.

Historical sites include a medieval castle, for which Newcastle is named, and a fourteenth century cathedral. Housed in a landmark industrial building on the south bank of the River Tyne and presenting a dynamic, diverse and international programme of contemporary visual art is the Baltic - the biggest gallery of its kind in the world.

Newcastle is very accessible with an international airport providing links to most European capital cities, and fast rail connections to London and Edinburgh. A Metro system offers fast, efficient travel around Newcastle.
